Common for Men over 50 to Develop Breast

Unlike women, who are naturally born with them, men's develop breast probably due to hormonal imbalances or other medical conditions.

When we talk of breasts, women naturally come in mind.

But some men do develop breasts too.

This condition is medically known as gynaecomastia.

It resulted when a man develops excessive breast tissue, seen as an enlargement of the breast.

While it can occur in males of any age, it is more common in men above the age of 50.

This is due to the increased conversion of male hormones to female hormones and the decreased production of testosterone as men get older.

Even male infants can suffer from gynaecomastia due to the high oestrogen during the state of pregnancy.

Estimated 60 to 90 per cent of infants have transient gynaecomastia.

Gynaecomastia is becoming more common worldwide due to more people being overweight.

The increased of fat in men resulted in the increased of female hormone oestrogen in their bodies.

However, there are other reasons behind gynaecomastia, such as puberty.

A result of hormonal fluctuations during puberty, even a boy who is not overweight may have a localized button-like lump growing inside his breast.

It is usually hard to the touch and if it is painful, it can be removed surgically although the problem will goes away after two to three years.

Men with fatty liver conditions are also prone to gynaecomastia as their liver is unable to metabolise the female hormones and the result is a rise in their oestrogen level.

It can also be caused by genetic conditions such as Klinefelter’s syndrome.

Men suffering from this have an extra X chromosome and hence posses more female characteristics.

What causes men to develop breast?

Fat

Men’s "breasts" are actually just fat. There are no firm tissues, just lard.

They wobble when you run.

Age

The breast tissue tends to swell every time your hormones level increases.

This condition is normal and harmless.

Medication

Some medication causes your hormone to fluctuate hence swelling your breasts.

Illness

Liver problems, kidney failure and an overactive thyroid can all be causes.

In most cases, however, there is no obvious cause.

For those suffering from gynaecomastia due to hormonal imbalances, medication may be a solution.

Testosterone injections may help men with gynaecomastia problem resulted from low testosterone levels.

These injections are not very effective and sometimes do not resulted in compete regression of the breast tissue.

The simplest cures are to slim down or lose weight.

Only consider surgery if you have tried that and you really want those vital assets.

The most effective way of getting rid of unwanted gynaecomastia is through open surgery procedure or liposuction.

Enlarged breast which are formed due to hard glandular tissue should be removed by open surgery instead of liposuction.

If the enlarge breast formed due to soft tissue, liposuction is best performed.

Surgery is necessary when the enlarged tissue becomes cancerous.

Gynaecomastia can also affect a man’s self esteem.

Men are advises to have the procedure if it affects them psychologically.

About Cancer

100 Questions &
Answers About
Lung Cancer
Cancer or canker in Latin means crab; come from Ancient Greek word karkinos also means crab.

It is now applied to cancerous tumors because the enlarged veins resembled the legs of a crab.

The Romans called the disease cancer, because of the crab shaped tumors that could be seen under the skin.

However, the origin of the word “cancer” is credited to Hippocrates a great Greek physician (460-370 B.C).

He used the terms karkinos and karkinoma in order to describe tumors.

Karkinos was used for any nonhealing swelling or ulcerous formation, even hemorrhoids, whereas karkinoma was reserved for nonhealing “cancer.”

In English this term translates to carcinos or carcinoma.

Herbalist Galen a prominent Roman physician and philosopher of Greek origin further expended Hippocrates works and studies on cancer.

Together they revolutionized the practice of medicine by removing it from grips of superstitions and magic, to the era of observation and logical reasoning.

Cancer has three meanings: crab, tumor, and the zodiac constellation.

Oldest record of cancer

Cancer is not a new disease.

The world's oldest documented case of cancer comes from ancient Egypt, in 1500 BC.

The details were recorded on a papyrus, documenting 8 cases of tumors occurring on the breast.

And cancer found in the mummified skeletal remains of a female who lived during the Bronze Age (1900-1600 BC).

The tumor in the women skull was of a head and neck cancer.

Another remains of Peruvian Incas, dating back 2400 years ago, contained abnormalities of involvement with malignant melanoma.

Burkitts lymphoma Cancer was also found in fossilized bones remains of a body recovered from ancient Egypt.

The oldest possible hominid malignant tumor discovered in 1932 could either be that of Homo erectus or an Australopithecus.

Type of cancer

There are over 100 types of cancer, affecting various parts of the body.

The most common types of cancer:

• Bladder cancer

• Breast cancer

• Colon cancer

• Endometrial cancer

• Kidney cancer (renal cell)

• Leukemia

• Lung cancer

• Melanoma

• Non-Hodgkin lymphoma

• Pancreatic cancer

• Prostate cancer

• Thyroid cancer

Cancer Classified by Body System

Cancer can affect every organ in the body.

The cells within malignant tumors have the ability to invade neighboring tissues and organs, thus spreading the disease.

There are possibilities for cancerous cells to break free from the tumor and enter the bloodstream and spread the disease to other organs.

This process of spreading is called metastasis.

When cancer metastasized and affected other areas of the body, the disease is still referred to the organ of origination.

For instance, if cervical cancer spreads to the lungs, it is still called cervical cancer, not lung cancer.

These cancers are:

• Blood Cancer

• Bone Cancer

• Brain Cancer

• Breast Cancer Digestive/Gastrointestinal

• Cancers Endocrine Cancers

• Eye Cancer

• Genitourinary Cancers

• Gynecologic Cancers

• Head and Neck

• Respiratory Cancers

• Skin Cancers

What is cancer?

Cancer is a diseases characterized by uncontrollably cell growth.

Cancer harms the body when damaged cells form lumps or masses of tissue called tumors.

Tumors can grow and interfere with the digestive, nervous, and circulatory systems and they can release hormones that alter body function.

Tumors that stay in one spot and demonstrate limited growth are generally considered to be benign.

More dangerous or malignant tumors happen when two things occur:

1. A cancerous cell manages to infect the human body     using the blood or lymph systems destroying
healthy tissue in a process called Invasion.

2.This cell manage to divide and grow, making new
blood vessels to feed itself in a process called
   Angiogenesis.

Metastasized is a process when a tumor successfully spreads to other parts of the body and grows, invading and destroying other healthy tissues, it is said to have metastasized.

The result of metastasized is a serious condition that is very difficult to treat.

Cancer has claimed the lives of more than 7.6 million people in the world.

Balding Men

Men's Health Medicine Hair Loss Black BookAre you middle aged male and balding?

There are some who have not yet reach middle age but already balding.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone.

By the age of 50, about 50 per cent of men will suffer from male pattern baldness except for Eskimos men.

Hair is men crowning glory associated with power, virility and youth.

So, when you start to loss hair, you will also begin to lose your self-confidence, self-esteem and become self consciousness of your looks and appearance.

Here is what you need to know about your crowning glory when it begins to disappear.

How balding started?

Hair loss begins with a few extra hairs in the sink or on your comb. There are many causes of hair loss.

Balding starts at the temples and proceeds to the sides to form a letter “M” shape and then it spreads to the top of your head.

Gradual thinning of hair is a normal part of aging.

However, hair loss may lead to baldness when the rate of shedding exceeds the rate of re-growth.

When new hair is thinner than the hair shed or when hair comes out in patches.

We normally lose between 100-150 hairs per day.

Human hair naturally grows in three phases:

Anagen

Anagen is the active growing phase of your hair follicles.

Scalp hair stays in this active phase of growth between two to six years.

During this stage, your hair grows about 1 cm every 28 days.

Catagen

Catagen is a fairly short phase of the natural hair cycle that occurs at the end of the anagen phase during which hairs begin to break down.

It signals the end of the active growth of a hair.

This phase lasts for about 2-3 weeks while a club hair is formed.

Telogen

Telogen is the resting phase and the club hair is completely formed.

This phase lasts for about 100 days.

During this stage of resting phase or late phase in the hair cycle, the follicle stops growing, prepared for the cyclic shedding and your hair begin to shrinks.

Normally your hair shed about 25-100 telogen hairs each day.

At the end of Telogen phase, the hair strand falls out and a new one begins to grow in its place.

Once a hair is shed, the growth Anagen stage begins again.

The course of each cycle varies from one individual to another.

Male Pattern Baldness

Thinning, loss of hair or male pattern baldness is known as alopecia.

When hormones (androgens) and genetics are involved it is known as androgenic alopecia, commonly called balding.

Androgenic alopecia (AGA) occurs because the anagen phase shortens.

So you continue to lose your hair as new hair did not grow enough anymore.

Male pattern alopecia is characterised by a receding hairline or hair loss on the top of the head.

Caused Male Pattern Baldness

Male pattern hair loss is an inherited condition.

It is a genetically conditions caused by the sensitive effects of dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

The reason is due to a higher level of 5-alpha-reductase that converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which retards the anagen phase.

The production of DHT is regulated by an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase.

DHT shorten the growth or anagen phase of our hair cycle, causing miniaturisation of the follicles, and producing progressively finer hairs.

However, while testosterone changes into DHT on the scalp, its overall level continues to rise until men reaches the age of 70 years old.

The male hormone testosterone stimulates hair growth.

Balding men will loss hair on their scalp while at the same time gaining hair in areas that had little or no hair before.

Like the nose, ears and eyebrows.
