Know Your Fish Oil Supplements

Your have been taking fish oil and did not really know why it is good for you.

And all your friends have been talking about fish oil supplements.

Since your friend has been taking it for years, you also follow.

May be you did know that it has something to do with heart health.

Many people take vitamins and supplements based on other peoples view and then stop thinking about it.

Fish oil has many health benefits. Here we will look into some of it.

Fish oil and heart health

There are evidences that fish oil can improve your heart health.

In a 2009 study by the Journal of the American College of Cardiology suggested that people without cardiovascular disease should consume a minimum of 500 milligrams per day of the oils EPA and DHA to prevent coronary heart disease and those with known coronary heart disease should consume at least 800 mg daily. The omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil can also reduce the risk of sudden death in people without symptoms of cardiovascular disease, according to the results of a 2002 New England Journal of Medicine study.

Fish oil and mental health

There are evidences suggesting that fish oil may have mental health benefits.

One study found that fish oil and exercise can improved your cognitive performance and protect you against neurological lesions, according to the findings published in 2013 in the journal Behavioral Brain Research.

In another study, researchers found that patients who ate fish at least once a week are 60 percent less likely to develop Alzheimer's disease than those who rarely eat fish or not at all, according to results published in 2003 in the journal JAMA Neurology.

Fish oil in your diet

If you consumed adequate amount of fish oil from your diet, there is no need for you to take extra fish oil supplement in order to achieve its health benefits.

When you are supplementing your diet with fish oil, it is good that you fully understand the health benefits and potential side effects of the fish oil supplement that you take.

As with all supplements, please discuss with your family doctor first before taking one, especially when you are prescribed with a blood thinning medications.
